Tom Laughlin, the legendary film star and producer of the "Billy Jack" films in the 1970's was the first person that I really admired in filmmaking. Billy Jack was the very first film I had ever seen as a child. Growing up as a child of poverty with no family, I could really relate to the "underdog" vibe of the film. In many ways, I saw the character of Billy Jack as a mentor, hero and role model. I was 11 years old when the film was released. To this day, I can honestly say that I remember every single scene and it still moves me. Because I have native american indian bloodlines, I wanted to find out more about the filmmaker himself. This past year, I found him living beautifully with his lovely wife in California. I had the honor of meeting and working with Mr. Laughlin to share my ideas with him and he was kind enough to personally guide, mentor and advise me on moving forward with the mission. I will be eternally grateful for Mr. Laughlin's wisdom, kind words and support in the inspiration of the documentary and reality series. His accomplishments in filmmaking are astonishing and should be respected by everyone that aspires to get in to the entertainment business.
God bless you Billy Jack, America Needs a Hero Like Billy Jack now!
